BILINGUAL PRACTICES AT EFAM

HARMONIZING THE FRENCH AND ENGLISH CURRICULUM

To maximize our students’ bilingual skills in the local American context, EFAM organizes its instruction as follows:

  • Instruction in the French language is predominant in all classes

  • The French and English curriculum is harmonized in regards to common themes (for instance, parts of speech)

  • Schoolwide and multi-class projects are covered in both languages (the Printemps des poètes - Spring poetry project for instance)

  • In elementary classes, out of the 5 novel studies covered each year in French and English class, two of them are covered simultaneously and bilingually by both the French and English teachers.

BILINGUAL CO-TEACHING

bilingual co-teaching has become part of our curriculum over the past few years.  During these classes, both the French and English teachers teach together.  The teachers prepare these lessons ahead of time during their weekly co-planning periods.  The co-taught classes can cover any subject such as language arts, literature, math, science or even art.
